Which came first, the gardening or the woodworking? I have been doing both since I was a kid. Among my earliest memories are of peonies in my grandparents’ garden, and of building boxes with scraps of wood and bent nails. I have come a long way since those memories, first as a woodworker and builder of fine furniture followed by career as a construction superintendent guiding projects from homes to movie theatres, all the while dabbling in the garden. |
In response to one of life’s many phase changes I took advantage of the opportunity to combine that building background and interest in gardening to persue an education in Landscape Architecture, graduating with honors from the University of California at Berkeley, College of Environmental Design in 1997. Since that time I have worked in the design-build field, exclusively in the design and construction of residential gardens in the bay area. That many of these projects needed fences and gates gave rise to Village Woodworks, first with simple gates and then to rustic furniture, has offered me the opportunity to return to an early love of wood and woodworking. I have designed, worked with other professionals, architects, engineers, horticulturists, subcontractors and suppliers, and supervised the installation of many gardens from the small to the large, each one with their own special challenges and rewards. Each client having their own needs and desires. Whether yours is to develop a new plan for your entire property or only a small piece, I welcome the opportunity to serve you with any or all of these skills and knowledge obtained over a lifetime of hands on work experience. As you peruse the photos I invite you to think of your own garden. |
